The Tofo Marine project is still going strong. We are slowly saying farewell to our humpback visitors and welcoming the turtle season and our new turtle researcher Jess from Australia.
While few turtle nests have been found over the last 2 seasons and only a few resident turtles are seen at local reefs, we know that this area once was a great beach for turtles and are keen to protect it for the remaining turtles. A conference was recently held in Maputo as well as a follow up training session in Ponta D’ouro. This was a huge step for the All Out Turtle project as it linked us to the correct individuals nationwide to better liaise to ensure that turtles are being protected along the Mozambican coast line. Local rangers have also been trained now and are working in the area to protect the turtles from poachers.
