Whale Sharks Galore!

So after three long months with not many whale sharks around All Out Africa and our partner Tofo Scuba were all hoping that this would be a better month. We got off to a slow start with only one whale shark sighted. Then after we had a huge thunderstorm storm we went out and snorkelled with 15 whale sharks in one day!!! The water was so full of Whale Sharks that after taking ID pictures of one we would have to move immediately onto the next. A few volunteers even got friendly nudges from curious giants.
Last month we also began participated in research dives with the Foundation for the Protection of Marine Mega Fauna and will continue to do so once a month so that volunteers can get some hands on experience with our data project partner. It was on one of these expeditions that we found a big male whale shark feeding and one of the Volunteers, Beat,  got the opportunity to swim next to the mouth of the shark collecting plankton -he loved it! Not many people get such an up close and personal encounter with an amazing animal like this…

In addition to the ocean safaris and whale shark encounters this month we also completed 7 fish transects, 17 fish lists and 1 beach clean-up.
